General Notes

Lowry gave this sketch in 1970 to a young lady called Susan Grainger who lived in Newton. Her grandmother used to call on Lowry for donations to the The Salvation Army and he did this sketch on the back of an invitation to a John Piper exhibition at the Hamet Gallery in1969 and signed and dedicated it to Susan. A press clipping from The Manchester Evening News with a photo of Susan holding the sketch is attached to the back of the drawing.
