39¼ x 26½ ins (99.70 x 67.31 cms)
This rare original gouache painting was used to produce a series of lithographed posters of Church Stretton in Shropshire, it features St Laurence's Church in Church Street, Church Stretton.
This is probably the largest work on paper he ever produced.
The School records at the Manchester School of Art indicate that Valette held a poster designing workshop. He used the experience he had gained doing commercial work in the UK to produce posters to promote various tourist destinations. Around 1919 Adolphe Valette became ill and spent time convalescing in Church Stretton in Shropshire. Whilst there he did a series of paintings of the surrounding area, so it seems natural he would he would produce a poster of the village.
