Around 1919 Adolphe Valette became ill and spent time convalescing in Church Stretton in Shropshire. Whilst there he did a series of paintings of the surrounding area' including this large original gouache work of nearby Ludlow. This painting of Ludlow features the medieval Ludford Bridge and the River Teme and was probably reproduced as a poster to promote village.
