General Notes

Family Group 2 is a very clever and complex painting. At first glance it appears to be a gruesome, slightly disturbing work. But on closer inspection you can see that Theodore Major uses four skeletons as symbols of the whole of the human condition. Love, partnership, parenthood, childhood and death are all represented by the skeletons in this painting. There is a tenderness between the 2 main skeletons, the one on the right is Theo himself and the one on the left is his wife Kathleen.
