An Industrial Landscape With Figures was originally owned by Maisie Butler, who had been a mature student at the Manchester Art School for several years towards the end of the 1960's and into the early 1970's and William Turner was her tutor.
As a result of her excellent tutoring some of Maisie's works were exhibited at various well known venues around the UK like Sir John Moores in Liverpool.
William Turner suggested to his friend L.S.Lowry that he paid her a visit and look at some of her work. Lowry did go to her house one day but sadly she was out.
Maisie eventually moved to Scotland but wanted one of William Turners artworks to remind her of the times she spent in college and bought this painting in the early 1970's.
The painting was acquired from the Pitcairn Gallery and was apparently one of three featuring Gorton in Manchester, the remaining two were reputedly bought by Peter Ustinov.
Industrial Landscape With Figures remained with Maisie until late in her life when she became visually impaired and passed the painting to her son where it has been on his study wall.
