General Notes

Newbiggin-by-the-Sea is a small town and civil parish in Northumberland , England, on the North Sea coast. Once an important port for shipping grain and a coal mining town, it is still a small fishing port making use of traditional coble boats. L.S Lowry was a regular visitor to the North-East of England and in the later part of his career he exhibited his work at the Stone Gallery in Newcastle. He always stayed in the Seaburn Hotel in Sunderland and he used this as a base to travel to various locations in the North-East. He produced a whole series a whole series of paintings and drawings of this region.
