Sheila Fell RA 1931-1979

Sheila fell was born in Aspatria, Cumbria, her father a miner. She attended Carlisle School of Art then St Martin's School of Art. Although she left Cumbria at 18 and thereafter on returned on visits, its landscapes predominated in her work. She was a friend of L.S. Lowry and he greatly admired her work.

She joined the teaching staff of Chelsea School of Art in 1958. She exhibited at the R.A., being elected R.A. in 1974. There was a small memorial exhibition at Abbot Hall Art Gallery in Kendal in 1981, and a larger one at Salford Art Gallery and touring in 1990-91.

The Tate Gallery and the Arts council hold her work.
