General Notes

Going to the Pictures is a superb example of one Lowry's line drawings. The drawings executed in the 1920s and early 1930s show how economically he could use the medium. They have the purity of engineering drawings, lacking pretension, slickness and artifice. During the line drawing period, Lowry made continual use of scenes such as this, taken from life and observed with meticulous care.
