The Lowry Centre, Salford. This painting has been on long term loan since 2001 and has been exhibited on numerous occasions during this period.
A study in the loneliness of the human condition: the winding road stretches far ahead of the mother pushing the baby in its pram indicating Lowry's belief that every individual is born and will die alone. The lonely house perched on top of the hill is another familiar motif that reinforces the vision.
