General Notes

In 1946 L.S. Lowry visited the charming Cotswold town of Burford and subsequently produced an iconic oil painting of Burford Church. In the 1970s this image was reproduced as a popular signed limited edition print, published by Grove Galleries as an edition of 850.
This is the original preparatory sketch for this famous painting and it's drawn on a page from his sketch book which was later torn out.

Lowry did this quick sketch whilst in Burford and it's interesting to see how close this composition is to the final painting. This sketch was originally acquired directly from Lowry by Grove Galleries and was then sold to a prominent northern industrialist and art collector. No 1 of the signed limited edition print of this painting is also available.
