Liam Spencer is one of the north's most critically acclaimed and popular artists. During the last 15 years he has had exhibitions in all of the north's important public galleries, including a retrospective at Manchester City Art Gallery in 2006. His work is now in major public and private collections all round the world.
More than 60 new works are on show in this exhibition, all painted in Liam Spencer's vibrant, impressionistic style. The majority of paintings are classic scenes of Manchester and East Lancashire where Liam lives and works. The show also includes a couple of paintings from the extreme ends of the UK - from the Isle of Skye in Scotland to St Ives in Cornwall. There are also a series of stunning New York street scenes, one of which is made up of 28 panels and is the largest work he has ever produced.
It's a visually stunning exhibition and a rare opportunity to see so many of Liam's paintings in one place.

An important exhibition of works by Theodore Major and L.S. Lowry entitled L.S. LOWRY AND THEODORE MAJOR: TWO LANCASHIRE PAINTERS is being held at Atkinson Art Gallery in Southport between 17th January and 29th March 2015. To mark this important event we are holding a separate L.S Lowry and Theodore Major exhibition within our current Winter Exhibition at our gallery in Hale. Nineteen works by Lowry and Major will be available to view during the exhibition and we hope to add new works during the course of the exhibition.
The Atkinson exhibition is the third exhibition of Theodore Major's work in a public gallery in recent years. The previous exhibitions at Salford Art Gallery in 2003 and Gallery Oldham in 2008 were both huge successes and featured many of his brooding Wigan landscapes.. Lowry and Major have not exhibited together publically since the 1950s so this exhibition will be a fantastic showcase for the two greatest northern school artists.
Lowry's place as the founder of the Northern School of art is undisputed but Theodore Major is also one of the most important northern artists of his generation. He lived to paint and shunned fame and fortune. If he had not rejected the commercial gallery system he had the potential to be as big as Lowry. Over 5000 people attended the Theodore Major retrospective we held in our Hale gallery in 2007. Our biggest attendance ever and a sign of the respect in which he is held by collectors from all over the country.

Ben Kelly is nothing short of a phenomenon. He has had four major exhibitions of his work in the last two years and in each case he has sold out weeks before the opening night, his prices have more than doubled since his first show. This is Ben's biggest one man show to date and features over 90 paintings and drawings. As soon as it was announced we were inundated with collectors asking to go on the waiting list for a painting.

This is one of the most exciting exhibitions we have held for many years and features the work of two great artists. Adolphe Valette is best known both as the teacher of L.S. Lowry and as the creator of a remarkable series of impressionist paintings of Edwardian Manchester executed at the beginning of the 20th Century. Liam Spencer is one of the most important northern artists of his generation and paints Manchester as it is today.
